Overview
Moses is dead, and the people are camped on the wrong side of the Jordan. Joshua opens with God repeating one command to His successor three times: be strong and courageous — because I am with you.
The middle of the book is conquest, told quickly; the end is slow and tender — an old man dividing land and then preaching one last sermon: choose this day whom you will serve.
Underneath the battles runs a quieter theme: not one word of God's promise failed.
