Grace
The unearned gift running from Eden to the throne
Grace — unearned, unpayable kindness — is not a New Testament invention. It appears in the Bible's third chapter, when God clothes the people who just broke the world, and it never stops appearing after that.
Following this thread is following the Bible's actual plot: God keeps giving people what they did not earn, at cost to Himself.

Genesis 3:21
“And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.”
The first act after the fall is not punishment but covering — at the cost of a life. The whole gospel in one verse.

Exodus 34:6
“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.”
God's self-description, given right after Israel worshipped a golden calf. Grace is what He says about Himself at the worst moment.

2 Samuel 9:7
“I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan… and you shall eat at my table always.”
King David seeks out his enemy's crippled grandson — not to settle scores but to seat him at the royal table. A parable of grace acted out.

Jonah 4:2
“I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
Jonah's complaint is that God is too gracious — even to Nineveh. Grace offends people who keep ledgers.

Luke 15:20
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him.”
The father runs — undignified, robe hiked, unearned. Grace always covers the distance first.

“For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”
Wave replacing wave. The supply of grace does not deplete; it compounds.

Ephesians 2:8
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”
Paul's formula: grace is the source, faith is only the open hand. Even the receiving is enabled.

Revelation 22:21
“The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.”
The Bible's last word is 'grace.' The whole book is an envelope for it.
Where the thread leads
The Bible opens with God covering people who failed and closes with grace as its final word. Between, the thread only thickens: the kindness is never earned, never recalled, and never outrun.
