From the first word to the city that needs no sun
The Bible's first creative word is 'Let there be light,' and its last vision is a city that no longer needs lamps. Between those two, light keeps showing up at the exact moments God comes near — in a burning bush, a pillar of fire, a blinding road to Damascus.

Genesis 1:3
“And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light.”
Light exists before the sun. God is its source, not its manager.

“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud… and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light.”
Light becomes a guide. God lights the road home for a freed people — but only a stretch at a time.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Light shrinks to a hand-held lamp: enough for the next step, not the whole journey.

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.”
A promise appears: light is coming to Galilee, of all places — the overlooked corner.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
The light turns out to be a person. And the darkness has never won a single round.

Jesus claims the thread for Himself — every lamp in the Bible was pointing here.

“You are the light of the world.”
The astonishing turn: He hands the title to His followers. The light becomes communal.

“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”
The thread comes home: the last city runs entirely on the light the first sentence made.
Where the thread leads
